No, I don’t like cable spaghetti!*

Windows 7 || Windows Vista || Windows XP
Mac OS X || Linux (Ubuntu)
Symbian S60 3rd Edition || Apple iPhone

That’s not an ad for promoting operating systems. We only want to tell you that with these OS you can use the Wi-Fi provided by the It Services. In the library the Wi-Fi is rather useful. If all PC workstations are occupied you can find some quiet spot and using the WU Wi-Fi you can access the internet with your laptop. Using the Wi-Fi you can, of course, access all online resources offered by the library (catalog, databases, e-journals, and e-books).
The Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the whole library building.
Information about the installation can be found here.

So far away ...yet so near

Imagine the following situation: You’re at home, sitting in your comfy chair and doing some research for an important paper you have to write. You’ve already found some good books which you are going to borrow tomorrow from the WU Library. Unfortunately, the most important book is not part of the WU Library holdings. What now? Well, you don’t give up that easily and dismiss your paper, because you know, that the Library offers an inter-library loan service.

With this service you can get hold of books which are not available in the WU library or in any other Viennese academic library. All you’ve got to do is fill in an online form. As soon as the book arrives we’ll let you know. The book will be kept for 2-4 weeks at your disposal in the WU library. For books ordered from an Austrian library it will only cost you 2 €!

More information about the ILL service can be found here.

And now you can imagine to lean back in your comfy chair and call it a day …

Around the World in 60 days

Anyone who goes travelling has stories to tell – especially if there are some good newspapers at hand which provide interesting, curious, and helpful information. For those of you who don’t want to expose themselves to the stresses and strains of a journey around the world, the library offers a virtual trip.
You only need to board the
LibraryPressDisplay where you will find 1.540 newspapers from 91 countries in 45 languages. And it’s all online. And free (well, at least to you because the library pays the fee…). You can choose from a board collection of various international newspapers such as:

International Herald Tribune, Handelsblatt, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Moscow Times, Wirtschaftsblatt, Die Presse, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, El Mundo.

The LibraryPressDisplay provides 60-day back issue access.
Have a good trip!

Value added Google ScholarTM

Are you sitting at a PC workstation on the WU campus right now? If yes, then try the following:

Open Google Scholar and search for “corporate sustainability”. You get approximately 200.000 hits. If you take a closer look at the results list you will notice that next to some titles there is written SFX-Volltext - WU-Wien and for some others you get a link called SFX-Dienste der WU-Wien. The first link will directly take you to the full-text of the selected article. The second link offers you seamless searching for the selected item in the holdings of the WU Library without having to open the online catalog and type something in.
Cool, isn’t it?

If you want to use this service from outside the WU campus it’s no problem at all. Open Google Scholar; click on Scholar Preferences in the upper right corner; type Wien in the Library Links field and select the WU Libraries. To finish, click “Save Preferences”. Enjoy!

DocDel?!?!

No, that’s not the new medical drama from the U.S. but the Document Delivery Service provided by the WU Library.
In case you need a journal article which is not available either in the 2.500 print or the 9.000 electronic journals the library subscribes to, our DocDel team flashes into action. You simply have to fill in the online form to order the article. The article will be delivered within 1 week. After receiving a notice from the library you can pick up the article at the circulation desk where you can also pay the handling fee of approximately €7.50. Of course, you can keep the copy of the article.
