GMLP II is based on
- deepening the understanding of key concepts from GMLP I by applying them to a concrete research question
- two reports to synthesis and review literature
- a joint research project resulting in a research study (4 persons)
After completion of Globalisation and Multi Level Policy II (GMLP II) students
- can write research studies which are excellent and relevant
- are capacitated to mobilize multiple (interdisciplinary) perspectives, concepts and theories for the analysis of contemporary global policy challenges
- can execute a proper empirical research project, linking research question, theories (concepts) and adequate methods
The course will deepen the understanding of concepts and theories of multi-level governance, globalisation, democracy, power and space by applying them to concrete research topics:
Group 1: The Governance Crisis of the WTO: Challenges and Future of Global Trade Governance
Group 2: Affordable Housing – Vienna and Beyond (Case of Vienna and other European/International cities)
Group 3: The Governance Challenges of Urban Production (Case of Vienna and other European/International Cities).
Group 4: Foundational Economy in Innerfavoriten
Group 5: Digital Platforms and urban development (Airbnb, Uber, …)
Group 6: Belt and Road Initiative and its impact on Southern Europe
- synthesis report on "Enlarging local space of manoeuvre as an alternative to global governance?" (20 points)
- Mid-term presentation (10 points)
- Final presentation (15 points)
- final seminar paper (55 points)
- bonus activity (10 points)
Successful completion of "Globalisation and Multi-Level Policy I" or equivalent.

Minimum requirements to attend this course:
• Economics (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits)
• Social sciences (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits) OR Mathematics / statistics / quantitative methods (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits)
Proficiency in English is required. If you do not meet this requirement, we reserve us the right to withdraw students from the course.
