This project-based course explores the dynamic intersection of sport and international management by combining international managerial perspectives with the unique structures, cultures, and performance logics of sport organizations. Students will examine how managers operate within professional clubs, federations, event organizations, and sport-related businesses in a global environment. Through hands-on projects and real-world case studies, participants will analyze contemporary challenges in sport. The course emphasizes practical application, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving, enabling students to understand how management concepts translate into the context of sport.
After successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Analyze a international sports-related business or research context in a methodologically sound manner.
- Plan, conduct, transcribe, analyze an independent study and prepare the results in a presentation and written summary.
- Bridging the gap between international management and business theory and practice in the international sports business.
- Work cooperatively in interdisciplinary teams, take over stakeholder management with external interlocutors and communicate professionally.
- At least 80% participation in face-to-face appointments (including excursions) is required.
- Non-participation without a valid reason can lead to a reduction in the grade or exclusion from the project part (by arrangement).
- Participation and active participation in the face-to-face sessions including excursions: Attendance is expected.
- Group project
- Presentations
- Written report (approx. 8–10 pages, 12 pt, Arial, 1,5 line space, per group)
- Presentation: Each group presents its key findings and recommendations (approx. 15-20 minutes) + Q&A.
- Peer feedback & reflection: Each group provides feedback to a different group.
- Project group work & results report: 50 %
- Group presentation: 25 %
- Peer feedback & reflection: 10%
- Collaboration / participation (incl. excursions): 15 % – grade "not sufficient" if the minimum attendance is not reached, absence from the project presentations
