This seminar will introduce students to the field of international investment law and arbitration, based on the case of the 18th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court (https://www.investmentmoot.org).

Participants will collectively analyse the historical investment arbitration case, identify the relevant legal and procedural issues, conduct research, and present their findings in both written and oral form.

Special attention will be given to the structure of investment treaties, jurisdiction and admissibility under public international law, and the unique historical dimension of the Frankfurt Moot.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will have improved their legal communication skills in English, both in writing and orally.

Students will be able to give a concise overview of the current moot case, demonstrate a clear understanding of the investment arbitration process, and develop effective advocacy techniques for written submissions and oral pleadings.

They will also gain an understanding of how the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court operates, including its procedural rules and evaluation criteria.
