This general introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methods will provide information about 1) different forms of methods 2) application to test data 3) replication of published articles and finally about 5) critical reflection on quantitative and qualitative approaches.

Topics of the quantitative part: logistic regression, multilevel regression, replication studies

Topics of the qualitative part: Students will further develop their qualitative research projects by collecting and analysing additional data. Working in small groups, they will critically assess the strengths and limitations of different methodological approaches and present their evaluations for peer-feedback. The final research report will focus on systematically comparing the group’s findings with those of the core article and reflecting on how different qualitative approaches shape the results.

80% attendance of the class is required! If you miss a class, please inform us in advance!

Presentations, discussions, hands-on exercises,  application of statistical methods using Stata

doing a qualitative research project in a small group, applying different methods of data collection and analysis, providing peer-feedback on other group projects
