Class objective(s) (learning outcomes)
THIS COURSE IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS 'ENGLISH BUSINESS COMMUNICATION 4' (EBC4).

After attending this course, students will be able to:
•    to demonstrate a level of general English competence equivalent to C1 (lower) on the Common European Framework ( http://www.coe.int/T/DG4/Portfolio/?L=E&M=/main_pages/levels.html ) with respect to aural and oral skills;
•    understand the structure and language of intermediate-level legal texts in specific business-law related fields;
•    understand and use standard legal phrases and apply correctly general and specialized legal terminology associated with the above fields;
•    to combine these abilities in order toenter effectively into oral discussion about general and specialized concepts in business law, legal systems and procedures.

In addition, this course fosters the following soft skills:
•    Explanation and summary in German (or other native language) of texts, written and oral, relating to the field of legal English.
•    Improved reading & writing skills

Prerequisites according to degree program
Successful completion of EBC 1 and EBC 2 ('Fremdsprachliche Wirtschaftskommunikation II - Englisch).

This course focuses on the intersection of business and law and on the English language used to competently cover the most important concepts of commercial law, contract law, company law, and other business-related legal topics.

3 Corporate law I: forms of business organization in the U.S., corporate governance
4 Corporate law II: companies legislation in the U.K., case study
5 Contract law I: birth, life, and death of a contract
6 Contract law II: the international contact of sale, structure and language of contract, case study
7 Torts & crimes I: torts, product liability, intellectual property
8 Torts & crimes II: white-collar crimes, case study
9 International law: public and private international law
