Class objective(s) (learning outcomes)
After completing this class the student will:

• Know the theory as well as the practice of private wealth management
• Understand financial investments and the fundamentals of private wealth management on the basis of selected case studies
• Be able to explain and describe alternative asset classes
• Be able to analyze investors' objectives, investment constraints, and risk preferences
• Be familiar with modern portfolio theory and performance evaluation

Moreover, this class will contribute to the students’ ability to:

• analyze and solve complex portfolio problems individually and as a member of a group and to develop solutions by functioning as a valuable and cooperative team member
• summarize and professionally present solutions in class
• adequately communicate and participate in in-class discussions
• solve and present a case study in small groups.

Prerequisites according to degree program
• Fulfillment of §7 of the curriculum of the Master Finance and Accounting
Teaching and learning method(s)
This seminar, which is held together with the bank Gutmann, consists of a theoretical and practical part. The first part gives students an introduction to the fundamentals of wealth management.

In the second part students have to present selected case studies. To better support the students in their preparation of the individual case studies, each student group is assigned a tutor.

Criteria for successful completion
Students who take this course as part of their degree program will be graded on the basis of

• their participation during the lecture
• their paper that has to be submitted prior to presentation
• the case study presentation

The arrangement of the teams and the case studies` allocation per team will take place during this kick-off. Afterwards you will be given an introduction to the fundamentals of wealth management.
2 14./15.12.2010 8:30 to 13:00 - Presentations:
The teams have to present their case study.
