Contents
Firts half: Lectures on methods of modellingincluding linear and nonlinear difference and differential equations, stability analysis of equilibrium points, bifurcation diagrams
Introduction to numerucal implementation

Second half: Nonlinear dynamic models in various fields of economics

numeric implementation and simulation study
written paper: model outline + documentation of simulation results

Possible topics for the seminar paper (can be adjusted to the field of dissertation):

New Economic Geography
Expectations and Learning
Dynamics in stock markets and foreign exchange markets
Macroeconomic Topics
Learning outcomes
The students should gain an understanding of centralmethods analysing linear and nonlinear dynamics in economic models andshould be able to apply them actively to new research problems(possibly occuring in the context of their doctoral thesis).
Teaching/learning method(s)
Lecture based on slides, presentations by students, written seminar paper
Assessment
active aprticipation in class discussion,
preparation of a written seminar paper and oral presentation,
discussant
Prerequisites for participation and waiting lists
Participants should be explicitly interested in economic theory and in economic modelling.
