Contents

The lectures covers several important areas to allow for a well-rounded understanding of intercultural competence in CEE. On the one hand, theoretical aspects are covered to extend existing knowledge about cultural differences and develop an awareness of


- different layers of culture and their relationships
- foundations of individual behaviour from a multidisciplinary perspective
- intercultural competence in negotiation settings  

Learning outcomes

The learning objectives of this seminar can be summarised as follows:  


- Develop a solid understanding of what culture is and how it links to individual behaviour as one influential factor
- Build awareness of cultural differences and issues related to intercultural communication
- Hone (self-)reflective skills to allow for the development of intercultural competence
- Improve communicative skills in multicultural settings
- Develop analytical skills that allow for better assessment of intercultural situations and possible patterns of behaviour

 

Teaching/learning method(s)

The lecture is complemented by several practical activities, which allow for the application of the newly acquired knowledge in class. Such activities include 


- group work + presentations
- case studies
- simulation
- plenary discussions

Assessment
- Active participation
- Assessment(for those who need a mark): 1500 word assignment
