• identifying and assessing the scope of the hospitality industry;
• explaining the nature, purpose, and classification of attractions;
• defining those aspects of socio-cultural behaviour that are most susceptible to tourism activity and most likely to be influenced and changed as a result of it;
• assessing the different ways that tourism can pursue sustainability objectives and the limitations likely to be experienced;
• knowledge of the factors influencing the buyer decision process in tourism;
• in particular an understanding of the theory of motivation;
• an understanding of the reasons why we measure both international and domestic demand;
• a knowledge of the main methods used to measure tourism demand;
• be familiar with the nature and structures of intermediation and the arguments for and against dis-intermediation of distribution channels in tourism.

Total credits: 100

• two exams: 40 credits (book-chapters & add-ons presented in class)
  
• individual contributions: 20 credits (participation during discussions; not attendance!)
  
• data collection: 10 credits (10 questionnaires and data entry)
• collage creation: 5 credits
• oral presentation: 10 credits
  
• written presentation: 15 credits (= slides and notes below the slides with additional information [i.e. all quotes] and detailed theory)
  

A minimum of 60 % of the 100 credits attainable is required to pass the course.

• 60 % - 69 % -> Grade 4­
• 70 % - 79 % -> Grade 3
• 80 % - 89 % -> Grade 2
• 90 % - 100 %-> Grade 1
