In this seminar students will deal with the questions about sustainable and value-driven IT design. Namely, it will be discussed

    1. How IT design impacts the end-users,
    2. What lessons can be learned from this inquiry which can be used for ethical IT design,
    3. The significance of value-driven IT system design

Special emphasis will be put on IT effects on human attention; memory and comprehension; academic performance, the phenomenon “fear of missing out”; etc. We will also discuss technology that improves human capabilities and well-being.
Learning outcomes

  1.     Insight into the impact of information technology on the end-user and the importance of value-driven and user-eccentric system design.
  2.     Literature research
  3.     Writing in scientific format
  4.     Presentation skills

    Teaching/learning method(s)

The students will be given presentations and starting literature on the above mentioned topics in form of scientific hypotheses.

Then they will be required to examine one of the topics in more depth, reflect on the subject, eventually change or specify the hypothesis, find arguments for or against the hypothesis, and think of creative ways to present the topic (through pictures, videos, analogies, metaphors, examples or scientific evidence).

In the end they will present the results of the research in creative format as well as write a seminar paper on the topic.
