The course is divided into the broad themes: Globalization, Internationalization, Strategy, Human Resources/Cross Cultural Management and International Finance. The different topics are presented by the responsible professor and discussed with the students. The following themes will be discussed this semester:
- Globalization
- Introduction into Globalization
- Historical Context of Globalization
- Dimensions and Drivers of GlobalizationStrategy
- Market-Entry and Selection
- International Financial Management/Financing International Business
In addition, an guest lecture is included for every (WU home)- student to attend:
“Iran -Chancen und Risiken nach den Sanktionen“ (auf Deutsch)

After attending this course, students will be able to:
- understand and explain the historical development of internalization
- identify and specify the impact of globalization on several dimensions of trade and business environments
- discuss the current position of Austria in the world economy
- explain the internationalization behavior of firms on the basis of current methods and theories
- develop basic internationalization strategies and rate them for specific contexts
- investigate strategic alternatives for market entries
- develop strategies for the management of multinational companies
- make decisions regarding human resource and cross cultural management
- deal with the uncertainty regarding management techniques and risk issues
- understand a firm's international financing decisions
In addition, this course fosters the following soft skills:
- ability to rate and select theoretical concepts in the course of international business for specific cases
- develop practice
- oriented solutions for a specific problem based on theoretical concepts and models
- ability to convince others of their ideas
- presentation skills to present proposals of a solution stringently and convincingly
- ability to give feedback and to take criticism
At the end of the course there will be a written exam! Additionally Students will be evaluated based on their in-class participation as well as a case-analysis which they can do either alone or in groups between 2 and 4 people.
