Learning outcomes

Understanding how the evolved human brain makes financial decisions

Understanding why financial and economic history tends to repeat itself– and will continue to do so

Identifying common errors and traps that prevent optimal decisions

Controlling the emotional aspects of financial decisions

Understanding the role of intuition in high-level decisions, and using intuition

Understanding the decisions of others and being able to influence them

Understanding individual differences in decision-making

Analyzing your own decision making processes and pinpointing problemareas

Understanding, improving and managing team decisions

Understanding the intellectual challenges that money has historicallyposed to humans

Recognizing, avoiding, and profiting from market bubbles and similar massphenomena

Detecting future social and economic trends with scenario planning

The class is interactive. Students shouldlearn from each other as well as from readings and lectures.

The topics are covered through readings, lectures,class discussions, psychological tests, decision exercises and in-classcompetitions for grades and real money, and team work.

Assessment

NOTE:

Multiple assignments are due early in the semester before formal classes start.

A passing grade is required for all six items that make up the total grade.

Before classes start students read a book (choice of four) in preparation for the course.
