The course will offer theory and a project to cover the following topics:
- The meaning of theory, research and methodology
- Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
- Valuation and selection methods
- Application of theory and methods in research and business
By the end of this course students should be able to:
- Develop a critical understanding of fundamental methods of Information Management and Control
- Construct qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method designs for data collection and analysis
- Critically evaluate chosen methods, and those of others, and develop ways to improve method application.
- Explain different approaches to evaluate and select decision-making units
- Apply decision frameworks and methods to contemporary IS applications
This course offers packaged theoretical modules in block mode.
Each unit involves theory presentations, working on, presenting and discussing questions and cases from methodological viewpoints.
This course involves private study including guided reading associated with focus topics and independent smallgroup work, and preparation for and production of coursework assignment.
Formal grading of work and learning outcome will include level and quality of active participation, written exam(s), and an assignment. Individual contributions to the process of group work will be assessed through participants appraising.
Exam part A (Theory and application): 30 %
Exam part B (Methods and application): 30 %
Assignment "Methods in Information Management": 30 %
Non graded formative assessment will take place during each session when students will work on questions, discuss case studies or seminar papers in groups or alone.
Only students who successfully passed the basic course (Course 1; GK1) of the specialization "IS Management and Control" are admitted.
Students are welcome to discuss course-related issues during weekly surgery hours or by appointment with the course lecturers
