Contents

This course deals with the estimation of causaleconomic effects when using micro-data. Thereby, we will put a specific focuson the estimation of causal treatment effects by applying econometric modelsfrom the program evaluation literature. The discussed approaches includefixed-effects models, difference-in-differences (DiD) estimation, propensityscore and matching based methods, regression discontinuity designs andinstrument variables (IV) estimation.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, students are able to understand the methodological issues involved when estimating causaltreatment effects of (economic) policy programs. They are familiar with the counterfactualscenario framework and understand the advantages and disadvantages of theseveral alternative econometric models for estimating causal treatment effects.
