This reading course reflects on the importance of Friedrich A. Hayek for research in the field of socioeconomics and politico-economic development. Reading will focus on "The Constitution of Liberty" and other texts from Hayek and scholars who deepened Hayek´s approach.
Learning outcomes

After finishing the course, students will be able to

* understand the importance of history and institutions for socioeconomic development,

* better understand the role of liberalism in political and economic history of the 19th and 20th century,

* better understand the importance of Hayek for contemporary policy making and the constitution of the European Unioni,

* apply Hayek´s theories, concepts and historical interpretation to problems of socioeconomic and socioecological development.

This reading course will be based on texts from and about Friedrich A. Hayek, esp. "The Constitution of Liberty".
Assessment

* written presentation and comments on chapters (50%)

* participation in class (20%)

* individual seminar paper (30%)
