The course focusses on the economics, policy and demography of migration. 

We will deal with the www of migration:

  • Why:  We will analyze the main economic, institutional and environmental factors behind migrations
  • Where: We will introduce to the analysis of migration flows across countries in the world
  • What: We will investigate the economic, social and institutional consequences of migrations
Learning outcomes

After completion, students:

  • Have obtained an overview of the key issues regarding migration
  • Have knowledge about the actual quantitative existing and predicted flows in and out of countries
  • Have acquired the capacity to understand the complex interconnections between migration and other global challenges such as economic development and climate change
  • Have acquired the conceptual tools in order to scientifically evaluate the weakness and strength of national and global migration policies

Assessment

Grading:

  • A written essay (60%)
  • Participation (20%)
