Thorough introduction to neoclassical and endogenous growth theory.
Learning outcomes
The course provides the main theoretical and empirical tools to understand long-run economic growth and explain why income per capita grows at different rates across countries. After taking the course students will be able to understand and critically assess the basic academic literature on economic growth and development, as well as documents related to development policy.
Teaching/learning method(s)
The course is composed by two parts. The first part is a set of lectures (approximately 8 units), complemented by group homework assignments. This part ends with a written exam. In the second part (approximately 4 units) the students have to prepare and present a review of a selected empirical topic related to economic growth.
Assessment
Exam (70% of the final mark), presentation of recent research on economic growth (20%) and discussion of presentations (10%).
