GMLP II is based on

  1.  Deepening the understanding of key concepts from GMLP I and the introduction of new concepts (democracy, transition/transformation, social innovation)
  2.  Analyses of three case studies on (1) trade policy, (2) housing policy and (3) place-based social Innovation.
  3.  A joint research project (4 persons) on trade policy, housing policy and place-based social innovation
Learning outcomes

After completion of Globalization and Multi Level Policy II (GMLP II) students

  • Are capacitated to mobilise multiple (interdisciplinary) perspectives, concepts and theories to understand contemporary global policy challenges and to shape respective policies
  • Dispose of conceptual and analytical tools to understand and problematize policy discourses and strategies
  • Can execute a proper research project, linking research question, theories (concepts) and adequate methods

 

Teaching/learning method(s)

The course will deepen the understanding of concepts and theories of multi-level governance, globalisation, democracy, power and space by using them to better understand three thematic fields. The  respective policyfields will be presented by discussions with experts as well as an on-site visit. 


Assessment

    • 1 warm-up case study; max. 500 words (5 points)
    • 3 study reports on case studies; max 700 words (15 points each)
      • Trade Policy
      • Housing Policy
      • Social Innovation
         
    • 1 Joint research project on trade policy, housing policy or social innovation
      • Peer-review evaluation of exposé (5 points)
      • Final presentation of seminar paper, max. 15 minutes (10 points)
      • Final seminar paper, max. 6000 words (35 points)
    • Bonus activity: Popularisation of joint research project or individual reflection on GMLP (max. 10 points)

     

     

    Prerequisites for participation and waiting lists

    Successful completion of "Globalisation and Multi-Level Policy I" or equivalent.


    Prerequisites for Incoming Exchange Students nominated by WU partner universities:
    Minimum requirements to attend this course:
    • Economics (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits)
    • Social sciences (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits) OR Mathematics / statistics / quantitative methods (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits)
    Proficiency in English is required. If you do not meet this requirement, we reserve us the right to withdraw students from the course.
