This seminar offers PhD students doing research in the area of business communication (including organisational and workplace communication) to discuss and present their work in progress, and thus provides a forum for PhD researchers to raise issues and exchange ideas arising from their current research. There will also be inputs on various topics, theories and methods involving linguistic approaches to analyzing business communication, depending on the needs and interests of the group.
After attending this course, students will:
- have presented and discussed their research in progress with a group of peers;
- will have increased their knowledge of a range of topics, theories and methods involving linguistics approaches to analyzing business communication;
- will have enhanced their ability to discuss theories and methods for researching business communication critically and analytically.
- Will have honed their skills in applying these theories and methods to their own research.
The sessions will consist of a combination of lecture-style input, practical analysis activities and seminar-style discussions.
- Critical literature review in one area of students’ own research: 20%
- Written submission of 1 piece of individual research: 60%
- Oral Presentation of individual research: 20%
- Excellent written and spoken command of English equivalent to C2 on the Common European Framework
- Participants are expected to have very good knowledge of English grammar
- A degree in English would be an advantage
