Contents
This course provides students with the knowledge and tools necessary to develop a Bachelor Thesis.

It will give students a brief background on the philosophy of science and focus on the research process, from identifying possible research topics and choosing your type of research to standards in sourcing and citing.

The course focuses on three key aspects.

  1. The start of a scientific work. - The phylosophy of science, developing a research question and hypotheses.
  2. Organizing your scientific work. - The structure of a bachelor thesis and the types of research available.
  3. Literature research. - Where to find scientific articles and how to reference them in accordance with the norms.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students should:

  1. have an understanding of the philosophy of scientific work
  2. be able to distinguish and compare different types of scientific work
  3. be able to formalize a research questions and hypotheses
  4. understand the tools and norms available to referencing and citing
  5. undertake a scientific literature research
Teaching/learning method(s)

The course aims to equip students with relevant knowledge as well as skills. It will combine interactive lecture elements with group and individual tasks. Teaching methods include but are not restricted to:

  1. conventional lecture elements
  2. class room discussions
  3. case analyses as well as
  4. practitioner talks.

Learning via student tasks follows a blended learning approach. Throughout students will be asked to tackle and prepare various tasks. Attendance and participation is expected throughout the course.

Assessment

The students will be assessed based on the following criteria as listed below:

 

· 30 % Participation in class

· 30 % Teamwork

· 40 % Individual paper (ca. 1000 - 1500 words after the end of course)
