Topics include subjects such as major business (incl. retail) organisations, food & drink, leisure activities, cultural characteristics, and the social framework of the two countries. Some interesting language aspects (including dialect(s) and slang) will also be covered.Throughout the lecture contrasts and parallels between Austria, Britainand the United States will be discussed in some detail.

Learning outcomes
After attending the lecture, students will be able to follow and better understand current developments in Britain and the U.S. in the fields of business, politics, sports and culture. By being exposed to media input (mostly) from those two countries, a general understanding of basic behavioral and cultural idiosyncrasies will be developed and fostered.

Assessment

A.) WU students: Written exam

NOTE: Registration for the course is required for the exam, which can be taken at the end of the semester at the earliest. B.) For exchange students who take the course for credit, the requirements are: active class participation and a written exam towards the end of the semester- details concerning that exam will be discussed in class.
