GMLP II is based on

  1. deepening the understanding of key concepts from GMLP I (esp. , transition/transformation and urban governance) and the introduction of new concepts (foundational economy, social innovation; transdisciplinarity)
  2. presentations and discussions with guest experts
  3. a joint research project resulting in a research study (3 -6 persons) as a  case study in one of the following policy fields: (1) trade policy, (2) governance of urban renewal and (3) foundational economy.
Learning outcomes

After completion of Globalisation and Multi Level Policy II (GMLP II) students

  • can write research studies which are excellent and relevant
  • are capacitated to mobilize multiple (interdisciplinary) perspectives, concepts and theories for the analysis of contemporary global policy challenges
  • can execute a proper empirical research project, linking research question, theories (concepts) and adequate methods

 

 

 

Attendance requirements

Attendance of 12 sessions is required

Teaching/learning method(s)

The course will deepen the understanding of concepts and theories of multi-level governance, globalisation, democracy, power and space by using them to better understand three thematic fields. The  respective policyfields will be presented by discussions with experts as well as an on-site visit. 


Assessment

    • 1 warm-up case study; max. 700 words (15 Points)
    • 1 Joint research project on trade policy, governance of urban renewal or foundational economy, composed of:
      • Mid-term presentation of exposé (15 minutes, 10 points)
      • (Individual) peer-review evaluation of exposé from another research study,  max. 400 words (10 points)
      • Group presentation of Joint Research paper, 20 minutes (30 Points)
      • Final research study, max. 6000 words (35 Points)

     

    • Bonus activity: Individual reflection on GMLP (max. 10 points)

     

     

    Prerequisites for participation and waiting lists

    Successful completion of "Globalisation and Multi-Level Policy I" or equivalent.


    Prerequisites for Incoming Exchange Students nominated by WU partner universities:
    Minimum requirements to attend this course:
    • Economics (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits)
    • Social sciences (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits) OR Mathematics / statistics / quantitative methods (accumulated minimum of 16 ECTS credits)
    Proficiency in English is required. If you do not meet this requirement, we reserve us the right to withdraw students from the course.
