The course will introduce to the fundamental concepts in Health Economics and Management.
- Asymmetric information and agency
- Health behaviors
- The market for health insurance
- The market for physicians' services
- Hospitals and long-term care
- The pharmaceutical industry
- Market structures in the health care sector
The students will acquire:
- an overview of the key concepts and topics of the economics of healthcare
- a capacity to understand the specificity of the markets for healthcare
- an ability to apply the main economic concepts to the analysis of important and profitable health markets.
It is mandatory to attend the first lecture unless otherwise explicitly informed by e-mail. 75% attendance is required.
The course applies a combination of:
- Lectures
- Readings of relevant papers
- Discussions in class
Grading:
- Mid-term Quiz I (10%)
- Mid-term Quiz II (10%)
- Class participation (10%)
- Essay (30%)
- Final exam (40%)
Grade thresholds:
