Learning outcomes

After completing this class the student will have the ability to:

  • analyse the key differences in economic environments of various countries;
  • understand at a deeper level the effect government policies (monetary easing, cancelling of import tariffs, etc) will have on the economic environment within a country in the light of its interaction with the world economy;
  • interpret the news about changes in the government policies – what these changes mean for domestic and multinational firms;

After completing this class the student will also have the ability to:

  • understand driving forces of the firm’s decision to grow into a multinational firm, the challenges it faces and benefits of operating in multiple countries;
  • explain how operating in the multi-country environment affects investment decisions, budgeting and risk-management policies of the firm.;
  • participate in a discussion of challenges multinational corporations face in the light of the current globalization trend;
  • develop an opinion on how political conflicts can affect business environments and what implications these conflicts have for investment and financial policies of multination corporations.
Attendance requirements

There are total 14 meetings. The last one is exam, so students have to attend this one. The meeting #13 is a Q&A session, attendance is optional. Out of the core 12 meetings students have to attend at least 7 to pass the course.

Teaching/learning method(s)

Class meetings  will be held in the form of lectures. Partially filled slides will be available prior to the lecture on Learn@wu platform. There will be assigned complimentary readings for each topic. These supplementary reading materials will also be available from learn@wu.

Individual home assignments will be distributed with one-week deadline. Submission is to be done through learn@wu and late submission will not be accepted.

In order to encourage learning during the class, pop-up quizzes will be conducted at the end of some lectures, where students will be offered 5 mins to answer one multiple-choice or short open-ended question displayed on the board. The question will be solely based on the new information covered that day in class.

  • Successful completion of 8 courses within the subject "GrundlagenFinanzwirtschaft, Rechnungswesen und Steuern" ("Basics in Finance,Accounting and Taxes")
