The European Law Moot Court is an annual international competition which is held between University teams of students who have an interest in European Union Law. It is organized by the ELMC Society, founded in 1988. It is today considered as the most prestigious moot court within the field of European Union Law and one of the most important moot court competitions in the world.

The European Law Moot Court is a unique experience for the students, introducing them to research and bilingual work. On average, more than 80 European and American Universities participate in the European Law Moot Court every year.

Learning outcomes

This Competition is about learning and about meeting other people from all backgrounds, who share a common interest in Europe and EU Law. This is one of the rare settings in which you will have the chance to meet people from all over the world studying European Law, along with the unique opportunity to plead before actual Members of the Court of Justice and General Court of the European Union, and top Professors and Lawyers, who practice in the field for decades.

Your victory will be to learn how to face a legal problem, work on it as a team, research, discuss, argue, present written pleadings, and then plead before a bench of top experts in the field. What you will do in the course of the Competition is quite similar to the kind of work that you will asked to deliver in real life in many legal professions.

You will win by learning how to organize your work, working as a team, respecting all points of view, and challenging yourself to act professionally and seriously.

Attendance requirements

Continuous attendance throughout the course is necessary and required.

Teaching/learning method(s)

Self-guided research and preparation of written statements and oral pleadings (both applicant and defendant) under supervision of the coaches.

Depending on their quality, the written statements may further be developed into a master's thesis.
