Learning outcomes
  • Stimulate individual and team creativity, which includes learning and applying structured creativity stimulation methods in the development of new products and services
  • Leverage empathic design methods to maximize fit between consumer challenges and new products and services
  • Develop Problem-Detection-Plus procedures and scales to identify potential parity dimensions and positioning dimensions for new products and services
  • Manage teams for idea generation and peer review
  • Manage improvements to competitive advantages vs. disadvantages over time
  • Understand and develop experimental methods for testing new product and service ideas
  • Assess conjoint part-worth utility estimates and determine their implications for how best to maximize new product and service profitability

  • Individual Exam covering (1) lecture slides, (2) Murdock and James, Ltd. (case), (3) How Pixar Fosters Collective Creativity (article), (3) Six Myths of Product Development (article), and (4) Why Consumers Don’t Buy (background reading, key material covered in lectures)
