This course is based upon the tackling of research challenges in the analysis of process data. A particular emphasis is put on topics inspired by real-world problems to be solved by means of innovative data analysis methods.
Successful students will be able to identify business scenarios in which complex event processing can be applied and will be able to conduct the steps towards a successful implementation. Furthermore, students get familiar with the recent research discussion in this field.
The course is designed as a mixture of lecture with accompanying project assignments. Reflections on recent research insights are expected during and after their conduction.
The students will take part in continuous project work. There will be four progress presentations, each accounting for 10% of the overall grade. The final presentation accounts for 20% and the project report accounts for 40%.
Participants are expected to be familiar with the content of the course Business Process Management. Generally, it is assumed that the concepts described in Dumas et al.: Fundamentals of Business Process Management, Springer 2013, are understood.
The participants should understand the general concepts of languages like BPMN and the general motivations of business process management and data analytics.
