Contents

The objectives of this courseare to get acquainted with basic concepts and methods of natural science –with a major focus on environmental sciences and systems. Special attention isdevoted to the transition from traditional reductive approaches dealing withnatural sciences to a systemic and holistic world view and the subsequentimplications for sustainability sciences and the dynamics of socio-ecologicalsystems.

Learning outcomes

The students shall get an improved understanding about the principles of natural sciences and their linkages with sustainable development. In addition, the students will be exposed to key concepts and models that underpin many SEEP courses.

Attendance requirements

This is a voluntary course for new SEEP students.

Teaching/learning method(s)
The course consists of an iterative series of thematicinputs linked with group presentations and discussions of selected texts.
Assessment

Voluntary course participation. No grading.
