The class in Supply Chain Operations is held in full distance mode. Even in the remote format, the sessions will take place within the announced time slots via ZOOM. The defined assignments will still be held in the regular format (see "assessment"). The conditions of the final exam will be the same for every class participant and, hence, in full distance mode an online exam.
All sessions will be recorded and made available on Learn@WU (via lecture casts).
This course covers the basics of organization and execution of international goods movements as a part of supply chain management in times of globalization and integration of world trade today.
- Explain how global trade impacts global supply chain operations as well as identify and discuss recent developments such as ongoing digitalization
- Demonstrate know-how in actual trade practice, including contracting, customs and documentary paperwork, means and modes of payment, transport management as well as risk, security and compliance management.
- Outline a plan for export/import movements of cargo in concordance with the present European Union legal environment and critically evaluate supply chain risk, security and compliance management issues therein.
- To identify and explain critical elements in the choice of transport mode including intermodal transport solutions.

Individual Level (70%):
- Container Tracking Report (10%) based on completeness and quality of content
- Commodity Assessment Report (10%) based on completeness and quality of content
- Remote Take Home Exam (50%)
Group Level (30%):
- Case Study Assessment, including submission of two brief management summaries (10% each) and one pre-recorded presentation (10%) on Tuesdays 23:55 CET on Learn@WU before class. Grading is based on completeness, quality of content, presentation and participation in peer-evaluation of other presentations.
Grading scale:
- Excellent (1): 90% - 100.0%
- Good (2): 80% - <90%
- Satisfactory (3): 70% - <80%
- Sufficient (4): 60.0% - <70%
- Fail (5): <60.0%
Prerequisite for passing the course: minimum performance of 40% in the Remote Take Home Exam.
