Procedure for the course when limited activity on campus

The first, informational session will be held online (details will be emailed closer to that date). All other sessions will be held on campus, but in a rotation system. This means that the group will be split to allow for groups of only a few students at a time for presentations and feedback.

Should the situation warrant further contact restrictions, this will be communicated in a timely manner, as will any resultant changes to the syllabus, grading criteria, or presentation modi.

Contents

Presenting selected business topics over the course of three presentations: one short (8-12 minutes) prepared presentation, one longer (15-20 minutes) prepared presentation, as well as one shorter (8-12 minutes) unprepared presentation.

Each of the two prepared topics can be chosen by the student with the approval of the instructors. The final ad-hoc presentation will be on a given business topic on the basis of a background article provided by the instructors and a total preparation time of 75 minutes.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to give clearly structured presentations in English, having improved, reinforced and refined their communicative skills to be applied in presentations and discussions.
Attendance requirements

Full attendance is obviously recommended, but participants can miss a maximum of one session if absolutely necessary. Should they be scheduled to present in that session, they will have to give their presentation in another meeting.

Teaching/learning method(s)

The teaching methods used will include detailed individual feedback by the instructor along with direct feedback from peers.

Assessment
  • delivery of a 10-minute presentation on a predefined topic (30%)
  • delivery of an ad-hoc presentation (8-12 minutes) on a previously unknown topic (30%)
  • longer presentation (15-20 minutes) on a previously agreed topic (40%)
  • regular attendance and active participation in discussions (= 'yes/no' criterion

If on-campus presentations are no longer possible, one or more of these criteria may have to be changed. Such changes will be communicated as soon as is feasible.

Prerequisites for participation and waiting lists

Registration required during the period of registration and effected on a first-come, first-served basis. Any unfilled slots will be filled from waiting lists in accordance with study progress and in cooperation with the Vizerektorat für Lehre und Studierende.
