Procedure for the course when limited activity on campus

For the class in Information Systems Development the alternative scenario would be a distance mode for the units. The exam at the end of the course will be written at WU (Room TC.0.02).

Contents

The focus of this course is model-driven (software) development.
We will discuss established concepts, techniques, and methods for:

  • the specification of graphical and textual software languages;
  • the specification of domain-specific (modeling) languages;
  • the mapping between models on different abstraction layers;
  • the verification of software artifacts;
  • the application of software patterns.

In addition, we will give an overview for the process aspects of software development.
Other (equally important) topics, such as project management or configuration management are not part of this course.

Recommended prior knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of the Unified Modeling Language (UML), esp.: activity models, class models, component models, interaction models (esp. sequence and collaboration models), state machines, use case models.
  • Good knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language.
  • Basic knowledge of the Object Constraint Language (OCL), esp.: operations on collections, invariants, navigation, objects and properties, pre- and postconditions.
  • Basic knowledge of the software development process (phases and activities, development cycle, evolutionary development, traceability).
! Important information !

The Covid19 pandemic causes several uncertainties for the upcoming winter semester starting on October 5th. If possible within the valid health regulations, the Information Systems program plans to fully return to the usual mode of classroom teaching with mandatory attendance. Nonetheless, an additional “plan B”-scenario for distance and/or hybrid teaching will be prepared for every class, which can be enabled if needed.

The program management will reevaluate the situation in September and decides then whether the classes will indeed start in the usual mode or in an alternative scenario. This decision will be announced in the syllabus until September 25 [for the classes starting in the mid of the semester until November 13].

We’re aware that the issue of visa is currently delayed and we’ll include this matter into our considerations. Should you be affected by such a delay, please inform us as soon as possible via master-is@wu.ac.at.
