The course will be held as an asynchronous distance learning course, irrespective of the Covid-19 development. No alternative plan B is required or considered.
The course addresses classic corporate finance topics with a particular focus on international finance in small and medium enterprises.
The course covers topics such as:
- International Capital Budgeting
- Hedging Foreign Exchange Exposure
- Hedging Practice and Strategic Hedging
- International Capital Markets and Capital Issues
- Real Options, International Joint-Ventures & M&A
- Project Finance
During the course, students
- have acquired theoretical and conceptual knowledge on international financial management,
- learn about corporate valuation techniques,
- have a systematic understanding of financial risk management techniques,
- understand the relationships between taxation and finance,
- are knowledgeable about hedging instruments,
- understand strategic financial management in an international context.
No attendance is required. Weekly sessions are available asynchronously as lecture casts. Between lecture casts, students complete weekly assignments. The final exam is a take home exam that is held on learn@wu.
Course design
The course is designed as an online, modular course that is taught entirely online on learn@wu. Students are expected to complete ALL weekly online learning components:
- Pre-session mandatory readers
- Recorded lecture casts (asynchronous)
- Online assignments and
- Learning extensions (videos & podcasts)
The course finishes with a written online exam (further info below). The distance course is supported online through student forums.
