Procedure for the course when limited activity on campus

The course will take place under a rotation mode, in case sessions can not be held as usual. A big room has been requested for this course, so that all attendees have enough space. Students are expected to prepare for each class with online materials provided. Attendance will be mandatory. The form of assessment will remain the same as initially planned.

Contents

Young Negotiator Initiative (YNI), is hosted by the Vienna School and organized by a dedicated YNI Core Team 2021 to support young professionals to claim their place at the negotiation table, cooperating across borders and generations. The goals include expanding the professional and personal skill set regarding negotiation, communication, cooperation, conflict and leadership. The key methodologies and objectives of the 5-day intense program on negotiation are:

Interest-based Negotiations (Fisher, Ury, Patton) based on “Getting to Yes” and related books including Harvard case studies

· Understand the other side’s interests and the art of active listening

· Power of alternatives and innovative options

· Prepare yourself and your team based on the 7 ELEMENTS

· Diagnose causes in real life cases based on the CIRCLE CHART

· Take a good look at substance – people – process: MEETING DESIGN

· Explore different negotiation styles and sharpen your awareness to common tactics

· Design a multiparty negotiation process, conduct and debrief (Harvard case simulation)

Process Communication Model® (by Taibi Kahler, Ph.D.)

· Sharpen your understanding of different personality types and their character traits

· Understand communication preferences as well as the role of psychological needs concerning distress behaviour.

· Increase self-management and your agility when negotiating by using tailored interventions.

Leading Out of Drama® (by Next Element)

· Tame energy vampires with compassion and its three core skills: open, resourceful and persistent

· Strengthen your resilience by practicing Compassionate Conflict and managing drama risks and behavior.

Learning outcomes

After attending the Young Negotiator Academy, participants will have the ability to:
 

· expand personal skillset regarding negotiation and communication

· re-imagine the way of cooperation

· build a network of people with diverse backgrounds and similar mindsets

· get to know YNI partners and faculty, consisting of international trainers and experts

· become part of YNI community and get regular invitations to exclusive events and trainings

Attendance requirements

As this is a blocked course in the winter break attendance is 100%

Teaching/learning method(s)

International keynotes and lectures of Vienna School Faculty, short presentations, working groups sessions, case simulations & real life cases as well as best-practice-dialogues. While the complete attendance during the day is mandatory, the evening sessions, consisting of negotiator lounges with best practice exchange and professional networking events as well as social and cultural encounters are optional.

Assessment

· 40% in-class training

· 40% case simulation

· 20% reflection paper

 

The following grading scale applies:

Excellent (1)       87.5%-100.0%

Good (2)              75.0% -<87.5%

Satisfactory (3)   62.5% -<75.0%

Sufficient (4)      50.0% -<62.5%

Fail (5)                             <50.0%
