Synchronous hybrid mode and distance mode

In this case, Selected Diversity Dimensions and Intersectionality would be a synchronous hybrid course: on-site and virtual. That means that the course (units 1, 2, 3 and 5) will be held in presence for a part of the participants. At the same time the course will be streamed for all students who cannot be on campus. In addition to that, students will have to attend Unit 4 and Unit 6 remotely via the internet.
The teaching methods/learning design will be as described above. Students need to prepare their assignments and come prepared for classroom activities as well (e.g. Discussions and in-class group work, analyzing and working with newspaper articles and film excerpts, analysis of scientific literature).

What is expected from students?
Preparation of assignments and participation in classroom activities is imperative (units 1, 2, 3 and 5). For Unit 4 (presentation of guest lecturers, speakers or invited experts) attendance and participation in the discussion is necessary (e.g. asking questions, making comments or suggestions). For Unit 6 all groups need to prepare and present a case study related to one dimension. It is important that students not only describe their case study, but also that they link it with the literature. In this case, groups will present remotely via the internet.

The evaluation of students will be as described above. Simple attendance is required for all units. See above how to proceed in case you miss one session. Group presentations are an essential part of the course and will have an enormous impact on the grade earned in class. Therefore, students should not miss this session (Unit 6).

The course covers selected dimensions of diversity; including age, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion and belief, sexual orientation, and social class. Dimension-specific theoretical, social, and organizational approaches will be examined and explained.  Different examples and related case studies at national, regional and global levels will be discussed.
 

Upon completion of the course students will be able to reflect theoretically on their dimension-specific knowledge in the area of diversity management and apply it to different practical contexts. In addition, they will have the ability to discuss critically and analyze social and organizational scenarios and experiences through individual dimensions as well as doing so from an intersectional perspective. Students will have a good understanding and knowledge of inclusion and exclusion processes and scenarios related to the different dimensions and how to influence these processes at an organizational level. 
 

Mandatory attendance

Simple attendance is a basic requirement for continuous assessment courses (prüfungsimmanenten Lehrveranstaltungen (PI-LV)).

Should there be an important reason for absence, then a maximum of 20% of the entire course duration can be missed. In case of more than 20% absence, the course must be repeated. For absenteeism, confirmation (for example a medical certificate) must be submitted.
Important reasons are, according to the examination regulations of the WU, any that are beyond the disposition of the student (illness, accident, death of a close relative). Vocational obligations are not considered an important reason in the sense of the examination regulations, since these are at the disposition of the students.

Total points to be achieved (a minimum of 60 points)

• Reflection on literature and content-related questions 15 points
• Individual research and reflection assignment 15 points
• Short exam 15 points
• In-class group work activities 15 points
• Group presentation 40 points

Grading scheme: very good: 90-100 points, good: 81-89 points, satisfactory: 72-80 points, sufficient: 60- 71 points, fail: 0-59 points.

To be eligible for the course, students must have completed the basic course (Grundkurs), the strategic diversity management course (Strategisches Diversitätsmanagement), and the diversity in teams course (Diversität in Teams).
