Contents

The emphasis in this course is on International Human Resource Management and on Expatriation.

The following topics are covered in class:

- Introduction and overview
- Cross-cultural Management
- IHRM and Strategy
- Global HR Planning
- Global Staffing
- Global Training and Development
- International Assignments, Expatriation, Global Careers and the Global Family
- Global Performance Management and Compensation

 

Learning outcomes
This course allows students to develop a theoretical understanding about International HR & Expatriation but also to learn about how they can use International HR Managers as a support ally later in their global careers; if the students are open for it, the course can also prepare them for pursuing an international career.
 
From the skill perspective students will get first hand experience on supporting each other and learning from each other in a virtual international team.
Attendance requirements

Currently, the course is planned on site. According to upcoming regulations, it can be changed into virtual sessions.

Attending the (live virtual) sessions is compulsary, absence from those sessions are only allowed with a written verification, and the student needs to notify the instructor about his or her absence.

Students who miss the first session will be automatically removed from the course.

 

 

Teaching/learning method(s)

This courses uses a variety of (online) teaching methods to facilitate the students' learning and to give them the most productive and enjoyable learning experience.

The classes will be on site. If necessary, we will change to a synchronous online modus. Class interaction is part of the course (either on site or in an online form).

 

 

Assessment

Class activities: 30 points

Group presentations: 30 points

Final exam (31st May 2021): 40 points

Grading

  • From 90 % - very good (1)
  • From 80 % - good (2)
  • From 70 % - satisfactory (3)
  • From 60 % - still satisfactory (4)
