The Business Analytics Seminar builds on the 'Advanced Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence' and 'Data & Algorithmic Governance' courses in the Business Analytics competency area. Within the scope of this seminar students shall deepen their knowledge gained in the previous courses of the competence field and ideally combine them. We will suggest advanced methods and topics from current scientific research particularly also our active research which shall be worked upon in small groups or individually, with a focus on preparing students to survey and apply cutting-edge methods for business and data analytics.
Throughout the course of the seminar the students will work on a research project which brings together the content covered in these foundational courses.
The format of the seminar will be as follows:
Session 1 Introduction to the seminar by Prof. Polleres and Dr. Kirrane. Presentation of possible project topics based on the content from courses I & II.
Session 2 Short project pitches by participants, including details of the qualitative/quantitive analysis to be performed.
Project proposal submission deadline
Session 3 Individual project proposal presentations and feedback sessions with Dr. Kirrane & Prof. Polleres.
Session 4 Individual project consultation sessions and feedback with Dr. Kirrane & Prof. Polleres.
Term paper made available for peer review deadline.
Peer review submission deadline.
Session 5 Final paper presentations and Q&A sessions by the peer reviewers.
Final term paper submission deadline.
After completing the seminar students will have gained a deeper, research oriented insight into applying methods of Artificial Intelligence to Business Analytics problems, with a particular focus on data and algorithmic governance.
In addition, students will have developed their critical analysis, scientific writing, communication and presentation skills in either a well-documented hands-on project or literature-based study that has to be summarized in a final seminar paper.
This course is composed of a mixture of independent research and in-class discussion of the state of the art.
