Mandatory attendance is required for the first and last units of the course regardless of the mode of delivery (online or physical). Students need to declare reasons for non-attendance and may need to compensate for any approved absences. Further units are likely to be scheduled during course delivery and depend on the needs of students. These units can be considered as non-mandatory.
The course will be conducted in block mode. A number of individual interactions with the supervisors are a planned component of this course, which are most important during the first stage of this course to develop an individual research proposal. This course involves private study including guided reading associated with focus topics, independent work, and preparation for and production of a research assignment based on the research proposal. Students receive a large amount of freedom in selecting the most suitable topic for this assignment.
Formative assessment will take place during each session when students can raise questions, discuss topics and present findings. Formal grading of work and learning outcome will include the quality of the research proposal (20%), final research paper (60%) and presentation/or intermediate report (20%).
