Embracing sustainability involves a different mind-set in the strategy formulation process. Rather than simplification, there needs to be an understanding of the interconnections between elements in the social, environmental and economic systems, over time.  This gets even more complicated when businesses operate internationally in multiple locations.

This course takes students through the process of sustainable strategy design.  Structured in three parts, the course takes participants through the journey of formulating, implementing and assessing a sustainable strategy.

Learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to enable participants to gain an understanding of integrating sustainability into the strategy formulation and evaluation process. Participants will be introduced to a number of frameworks, which enable the assessment of sustainability at the macro-environmental, industry and firm level.

This involves developing knowledge and skills that enables participants to:

a) Assess the environment for Sustainable Strategic Management at the macro-environmental, industry and firm levels.
