Transport and Logistics 1: Corporate Transport Decision Making and Management as well as Transport Economics/Policy

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the module, students should have acquired an understanding about the main characteristics of the transportation function from a shipper/forwarder perspective as well as topics of transport economics, especially EU politics initiatives. The former comprises the ability to evaluate decision making of private T&L stakeholders. Furthermore, students will be provided with knowledge on how to carry out market analysis as well as to evaluate and develop transport politics strategies.

Attendance requirements

Attendance of minimum 80% is mandatory (4 of 5 units)

Teaching/learning method(s)

The course is taught using a combination of lectures, class discussions, and homework assignments.

From today's perspective (September), all units take place as classroom teaching. If it should be necessary for Covid reasons, teaching will be switched to synchronous hybrid or even full-distance mode. Details would be communicated to students timely.

Assessment

Course evaluation will comprise:

  • Assignment - Eisenkopf (20%)
  • Case Study, Assignment or Flipped Classroom Exercise - Schönfelder (20%)
  • Final Exam (60%)

Grading scale:

  • Excellent (1): 90% - 100.0%
  • Good (2): 80% - <90%
  • Satisfactory (3): 70% - <80%
  • Sufficient (4): 60.0% - <70%
  • Fail (5): <60.0%

Prerequisite for passing the course: minimum performance of 40% in the final examination.

Prerequisites for participation and waiting lists

Incoming students (exchange programs): min. 5 ECTS credits in logistics management.
