The seminar is dedicated to the study of the quantitative methods that are most relevant to the class. The lecturer will introduce each quantitative method with a short lecture including Stata examples. Strong emphasis will be given to the reading and discussion of peer-reviewed academic articles applying the method. In addition, the students will have to present their own research or a related published article during the semester.
- Intuitively understand a wide range of quantitative methods and relationships between them
- Select the quantitative method that is most appropriate to the research question and available data
- Critically appraise published quantitative research
- Present and motivate own quantitative methods
- The lecturer gives a short introduction to each quantitative method using real-life data examples analyzed with the Stata software
- The students present peer-reviewed articles applying quantitative methods relating to the seminar
- The students present the quantitative methods they apply in their own research in the relevant seminar
- Class discussion of all presentations
Assessments
- Presentation of peer-reviewed research article (35 points)
- Presentation of own quantitative research (35 points)
- Discussion of research articles and student presentations (30 points)
Grades (point ranges)
- 1: Excellent (90-100 points)
- 2: Good (80-89 points)
- 3: Satisfactory (65-79 points)
