The seminar is dedicated to the study of the quantitative methods that are most relevant to the class. The lecturer will introduce each quantitative method with a short lecture including Stata examples. Strong emphasis will be given to the reading and discussion of peer-reviewed academic articles applying the method. In addition, the students will have to present their own research or a related published article during the semester.

  • Intuitively understand a wide range of quantitative methods and relationships between them
  • Select the quantitative method that is most appropriate to the research question and available data
  • Critically appraise published quantitative research
  • Present and motivate own quantitative methods
Attendance requirements

A minimum of 70% of contact hours.

Teaching/learning method(s)
  • The lecturer gives a short introduction to each quantitative method using real-life data examples analyzed with the Stata software
  • The students present peer-reviewed articles applying quantitative methods relating to the seminar
  • The students present the quantitative methods they apply in their own research in the relevant seminar
  • Class discussion of all presentations

Assessments

  • Presentation of peer-reviewed research article (35 points)
  • Presentation of own quantitative research (35 points)
  • Discussion of research articles and student presentations (30 points)

  • 1: Excellent (90-100 points)
  • 2: Good (80-89 points)
  • 3: Satisfactory (65-79 points)
  • 4: Sufficient (50-64 points)
  • 5: Fail (0-49 points)
