Introduction to the central methods (solving and analyzing differential equations and difference equations; dynamic optimization in discrete and continuous time) and models (neoclassical growth model, real-business-cycle model, New Keynesian model) of modern macroeconomics.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, students will be able to solve and analyze dynamic macroeconomic models and apply this knowledge in the context of theory-based policy analysis.

Attendance requirements

Since personal interaction is important in this course, attendance and active participation are necessary. Thus, attendance is compulsory for at least (80%) of the sessions. This holds true in the case of an on-campus mode as well as in the case of online teaching. In particular, attendance is necessary in the first meeting, the presentations in the exercise part, and at the final exam. More than 20% of sessions missed lead to being unregistered from the course.

Teaching/learning method(s)

The lecture comprises two parts.

The first part is a series of lectures and the second part consists of exercises to be solved and presented by the students (group work).

Assessment

Solving and presenting the exercises: 60 points

Final exam: 40 points
