During this class, we will discuss the following topics:

  • Economic foundations of international management
  • Measuring and managing country risk
  • Internationalization strategies
  • Strategic management of multinational corporations
  • Political strategies of multinational corporations
  • Development effects of international operations
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Develop awareness of theory and evidence related to the strategic management of multinational corporations.
  • Understand decision-making processes that consider the management of global value chains as well as the inclusion of political actors, NGOs, and the civil society.
  • Apply theories and approaches of multinational corporations in order to analyze and assess their international strategies as well as their developmental effects.
Attendance requirements

Students have to attend at least 80% of the scheduled sessions in order to meet the attendance requirements.

Teaching/learning method(s)

Classes will be a mixture of lectures, case studies, and interactive in-class exercises including presentations and discussions. Students will work individually and together in teams. An exam, group project work, as well as the presentation of the group project further contribute to the learning outcomes.

40% Exam (in session 5)

40% Group project presentation (in session 6)
