The course investigates the main phases that arise in the planning process of a railway system ranging from strategic decisions to operational ones. Each phase consists in a complex decision-making problem. We will focus on mathematical models and methods that can be applied to tackle these problems in order to achieve a more efficient railway system.
After this course the students will be able:
- to know the characteristics of the main phases arising in the planning process of a railway system
- to analyze and apply mathematical methods to tackle these problems
- to critically evaluate the most relevant features of an efficient railway system
Lecture with active participation, examples and case studies, assignments and presentations.
Assessment:
- Case study assigniment 30% (in groups)
- Presentations 30% (in groups)
- Final exam (quiz/short test) 40% (individual)
This is the gradind scale:
- Excellent (1): 90% - 100%
- Good (2): 80% - < 90%
- Satisfactory (3): 70% - < 80%
- Sufficient (4): 60% - < 70%
