Contents

The goal of this course is to examine how multinational enterprises' strategies have been reformulated by the increasing e-commerce boom and the rise of the cautious and conscious consumer. Grounding on the network perspectives, this course will examine how multinational enterprises should fit their strategies to benefit from the digital age.

This course will help students to understand better globalization in the trend of digitalization by knowing what digitalization is, how it changes the way of globalization, what international business theories can explain the new phenomenon brought by digitalization, and how firms can react to the trend of digitalization in globalization, etc. They will obtain knowledge by applying recent theoretical concepts to real-life cases.

 

Learning outcomes

The course will help students to understand better what challenges enterprises are facing in developing and applying digital technologies, as well as how new technologies shape the activities of MNEs and global value chains. They will gain this knowledge by applying recent theoretical concepts to real-life cases.

Attendance requirements

As this is a highly interactive class, it is important that you are well-prepared and present for all sessions.

The course is scheduled to take place in person at WU and full attendance is compulsory. You may miss one session, but be aware that class participation makes up a considerable stake of your final grade and, therefore, an absence will affect your grading. If you miss more than one session, you will be deregistered from the course.

There are no compensatory tasks/submissions, except in the case of (documented) illness.
