Presenting selected business topics over the course of three presentations: one short (8-12 minutes) prepared presentation, one longer (15-20 minutes) prepared presentation, as well as one shorter (8-12 minutes) unprepared presentation.

Each of the two prepared topics can be chosen by the student with the approval of the instructors. The final ad-hoc presentation will be on a given business topic on the basis of a background article provided by the instructors and a total preparation time of 75 minutes.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:

  • give clearly structured presentations in English
  • master the core communicative skills for presentations and discussions
  • present arguments in grammatically accurate, idiomatically versatile and rhetorically effective English
Attendance requirements

Full attendance is obviously recommended, but participants can miss a maximum of one session if absolutely necessary. Should they be scheduled to present in that session, they will have to give their presentation in another meeting.

Teaching/learning method(s)

The teaching methods used will include detailed individual feedback by the instructor along with direct feedback from peers.

Assessment
  • Preparation and delivery of three presentations (80%)
  • Accompanying slides demonstrating presentation skills and English language proficiency (10%)
  • A handout demonstrating the ability to summarise key points of a presentation in accurate and appropriate written English (10%)
  • Regular attendance and active participation in discussions (= 'yes/no' criterion)

If on-campus presentations are no longer possible, one or more of these criteria may have to be changed. Such changes will be communicated as soon as is feasible.

Prerequisites for participation and waiting lists

Registration required during the period of registration and effected on a first-come, first-served basis. Any unfilled slots will be filled from waiting lists in accordance with study progress and in cooperation with the Vizerektorat für Lehre und Studierende.
