This research course focuses on today’s most relevant as well as future-oriented research topics.
The course includes three different parts of content:
- Research Topic Presentations and Discussions. Current research projects at the intersection of Strategy, Technology and Organization and methods of empirical social research will be presented and discussed. These research projects presented include both dissertation projects from PhD students as well as presentations by visiting professors or other invited researchers.
- Speaker Series. The Institute of Strategy, Technology, and Organization in collaboration with the Strategy Subject Area at the University of Vienna regularly organize a joint speaker series – focusing on strategic decision-making, organizational design, and technology and innovation. Some selected sessions of the Speaker Series, which will feature the presentations of renown external researchers, will take place during this research course.
- Editorial Insights. During the course, we elaborate on the publication process in international top journals (positioning of papers, academic writing, review process). In the Editorial Insights-section of the course, we provide the opportunity to meet journal editors, which is a unique chance for elaborating on questions regarding the publication process and for acquiring information on specific academic journals.
Overall, this research course is oriented on international top journals as well as top conferences in management (for example, AoM, SMS). In its highly interactive approach, it provides an excellent opportunity – especially for junior researchers – to get more familiar with the standards of academic writing and of publishing in top journals.
Participants will gain knowledge about
- developing a dissertation/scientific paper
- quantitative and qualitative research methods
- insights into current research project during the Speaker Series
- editorial processes of academic journals.
Ongoing participation (40%), quality of presentation documents (30%) and quality of oral presentation (30%).
