The aim of the course is to understand theoretically the basics in business valuation as well as their practice-oriented application. The valuation methods are first developed theoretically and applied to concrete case studies.

Learning outcomes

After completing the courses, students should be able

  •  to carry out a business valuation,
  •  to obtain relevant market data required for valuation,
  •  to critically question the valuation methods and apply them appropriately, and
  •  to review valuation reports (e.g. by analysts).
Attendance requirements

Full attendance is mandatory. This means that the students should attend at least 80% of all sessions, at most one session may be missed

Teaching/learning method(s)

The interactive course supports and promotes the understanding of theoretical knowledge by means of practical application. In the first part of the course, the theoretical basics are taught by lecture by the course leader. This basic part is concluded with an intermediate exam. In the second part of the course, a business valuation is carried out in small groups and then presented.

Assessment

The assessment of the course is based on an intermediate exam (40%), business valuation report (40%) and the group presentation of the business valuation (20%).
