This course analyzes the design and implementation of corporate strategies that deal with diversity-specific aspects and investigates what an effective diversity management strategy should include. Diversity management involves a process of organizational change, we will therefore assess the consequences of, and the way in which managers can deal with, resistance to diversity measures. The link between an inclusive organizational environment and perceptions of organizational justice will also be discussed in connection with the topic of resistance. Further, individual and organizational learning processes in relation to diversity management will be scrutinized.

Throughout the course, students will apply their knowledge to live cases, examples, and/or projects.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify what an effective diversity strategy should contain.
  • Understand how to design and implement diversity strategies and gain a deeper understanding of diversity management as a process of organizational change, as well as the consequences of resistance to diversity measures.
  • Evaluate the implementation of corporate strategies that deal with diversity management, and reflect on the processes of implementation for these.

The course will also promote critical reflection and judgment, through both independent work and group work.

Attendance requirements

Simple attendance is a basic requirement for continuous assessment courses (prüfungsimmanenten Lehrveranstaltungen (PI-LV)).

Should there be an important reason for absence, then a maximum of 20% of the entire course duration can be missed. In case of more than 20% absence, the course must be repeated. Confirmation (for example, a medical certificate) must be submitted for absenteeism.

According to the WU's examination regulations, any absences that are beyond the student's disposition (illness, accident, death of a close relative) are important reasons. Vocational obligations are not considered an important reason in the sense of the examination regulations, since these are at the disposition of the students.
