The objective of this course is to explore challenges in procurement, design and operation of IT systems.

Outsourcing strategies and cloud computing promise cost savings and scalable solutions but there are also costs and risks for the organization like loss of human capital and specific knowledge, questions of data protection or security issues just to mentions some aspects which need in depth analysis.

We will also discuss security threats in a business environment from the perspective of a CISO who has to balance business requirements, innovation and security and has to understand possibilities and limitations of technology.

•     Human ressources
•     Legal requirements
•     Soft facts like motivation and awareness of employees

Standard FS (=”Forschungsseminar”) attendance policy applies. Attendance in the first unit and overall for 80% of the time is required. This course will be run as a combination of lectures, discussions, and presentations
 

•     Substantial classroom discussion is encouraged and expected
•     All students are required to present a case study (alone or as part of group)
•     In addition, there will be a written exam in the last unit (one hour) covering all the readings provided and items disucced during the course.
